Stanislaus County at a glance
Stanislaus County sits in California’s Central Valley, along Highway 99 between Sacramento and Fresno. Most senior care is concentrated around Modesto (the county seat and largest city, and the area’s medical hub, with Doctors Medical Center, Memorial Medical Center, and Kaiser Foundation Hospital Modesto), plus the unincorporated communities right at its edge, Salida and Empire. Turlock, about 15 minutes south on Highway 99, is the county’s second-largest city and has its own hospital, Emanuel Medical Center, along with Ceres and Hughson nearby. Farther out, Oakdale and Riverbank sit along the Stanislaus River to the east, and Patterson, Newman, and Waterford are the county’s more rural, agricultural communities.
Not sure which fits? If staying near major hospitals matters most, Modesto and Turlock have the widest range of options. For a quieter, more rural setting, Oakdale, Patterson, and the smaller agricultural towns are worth a look — just plan for a longer drive to a hospital.
